CES - 3034
The CES system design provides a high-density enclosure for both battery and power conversion. The deployment configuration ensures that the enitre CES enclosure can sit on a standard utility transformer pad.
The batery compartment for this application contains 17 lithium-ion 24V modules and a Battery Management Module.
Once site work for pad placement is completed, onsite installation can be completed in a matter of hours.
Community Energy Storage (CES) devices offer power utilities valuable power quality and power management support functions. The CES unit connects on the low-voltage side of a distribution transformer and serves the houses -- typically three to 10 houses -- connected to the transformer. The CES provides three main functions:
Load shift: energy storage capacity that stores energy when production exceeds load demand and then delivers it to the load when needed.
Power smoothing: provides a tunable counter balance to intermittent renewable energy sources such as wind and solar PV.
Peak demand management: limits the maximum load on the distribution transformer or prevents power backflow when local production exceeds local demand.
Power quality: sources or sinks real or reactive power to help regulate local frequency or voltage.
Power back-up*: provides islanded operation that supports local loads during short-duration power outages.
The PowerHub CES-3034 unit connects to the distribution circuit exactly as any residential load and provides 30kVA of power and 34kWH of energy storage. CES units communicate with the utility or system operator using a secure data collection and control interface.

The PowerHub CE-3034 connects in parallel with other distribution loads and does not require the interruption of electrical service during installation. The structure and configuration of the CE-3034 reduces per-site installation time to hours, not days.
CE-3034 units have been deployed in Sacramento, CA. These units handle the variable solar PV output and peak loads of up to ten connected solar homes. The units feature all above ground installation that minimizes impact on residential landscaping and can be located in any available utility right of way near the residential loads.
