BES - 3034
The Battery Energy Storage Unit was deployed as a back-up power source for a test faciltiy for solar and wind power applications. The unit is tied to a 3kW wind turbine and a small PV array and maanages the Air conditioning load inside small utility fort on site.
Working with a well known enclosure manufacturuer, a custom NEMA 4 cabinet was designed to house the inverter, isolation transformer, and battery bank. Every part down to the wiring harness was 3d modeled to guarantee the highest power density.
The modularity and standardized fabrication of the enclosure allows us to electrically design and deploy these units more rapidly than our other custom enclosures.
Constructed from powder coated 0.125" aluminum, all stainless steel hardware, and employing a 10,000BTU air conditioner, this unit is environmentally ready to take on the most extreme deployment environments.
The Battery Energy System (BES) is built on the same basic structure as the CES-3034 and DES-3072 units but adds built-in microgrid functionality that can supply backup power to the connected loads in the event of a short-duration power outage.
The BES-3034 unit provides power quality and power management support functions. The unit is connected on the low-voltage side of a distribution transformer and serves the equipment connected to the transformer. The BES-3034 provides five main functions:
Power back-up: the BES unit provides islanded operation that can support local loads for short-duration power outages.
Load shift: stores energy when production exceeds load demand and then delivers power to the load when needed/programmed to discharge.
Power smoothing: provides a tunable counter balance to intermittent renewable energy sources such as wind and solar PV.
Peak demand management: limits the maximum load on the distribution transformer or prevents power backflow when local production exceeds local demand.
Power quality: sources or sinks real or reactive power to help regulate local frequency or voltage.
The PowerHub BES-3034 unit connects to the distribution circuit between the distributrion transformer and the connected residential or commercial load. The unit provides 30kVA of real and reactive power and 34kWH of energy storage capacity. BES units communicate with the utility or system operator using a secure data/control interface.
