About
VPT Energy Systems’ (VPT-ES) business addresses the developing Smart Grid market by providing the controllable equipment necessary for widespread adoption of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) and vehicle-to-grid (V2G) energy systems.
A PHEV is a hybrid electric vehicle that can be charged from the power utility grid, allowing the vehicle to operate on battery power for at least part of its use.
All plug-connected vehicles allow electricity to be used to “fuel” the vehicle at an equivalent cost of less than $1/gallon of gasoline (@ $0.09/kWh). A plug-connected vehicle can also be designed to handle two-way power flow so that the battery can both charge and discharge through the plug when connected to the grid. This concept of bi-directional energy flow is known as Vehicle-to-Grid or Vehicle-to-Home technology.
